Borussia Dortmund mounted a spirited comeback against Lille, securing a Champions League quarter-final berth after a 2-1 victory (3-2 on aggregate) on French soil

Lille's Jonathan David opened the scoring early, slotting a shot through Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel's legs in the fifth minute and giving the hosts the aggregate lead. However, Dortmund refused to be deterred.

The tide began to turn in the second half when Emre Can converted a penalty in the 54th minute, awarded after a foul on Serhou Guirassy. Maximilian Beier then capitalized on a Guirassy assist in the 65th minute, blasting a shot into the roof of the net to give Dortmund the lead.

Despite late pressure from Lille, including a saved close-range shot from David and a thwarted attempt from Hakon Haraldsson, Dortmund held on. Guirassy's impactful performance, including winning the crucial penalty and providing an assist, was pivotal to the victory. His four assists in the Champions League this season are a testament to his impressive form. In fact, he now boasts 14 goal involvements in the competition (10 goals, four assists) this campaign, equalling Mohamed Salah's record for an African player in a single Champions League season.
This victory marks Dortmund's first comeback win in the Champions League after conceding the first goal since February 2021 against Sevilla. With a quarter-final clash against Barcelona looming, Niko Kovac's side will need Guirassy to maintain his stellar performance if they hope to progress further in the competition.
